Now this is one celebration I can embrace. Love my morning coffee! And that single cup after dinner…to round out the meal.

Declaring a day to celebrate coffee is a more recent event in history. Some have been labeled “International Coffee Day” with the first event of this name being declared in Japan in 1983. Others have labeled it “National Coffee Day”. The United States proclaimed their coffee celebration a national day in 2005. Still other countries just hold an annual “Coffee Day” celebration.

Not all countries have set a uniform date. Some celebrate in April (China), and the gambit runs through the months until October 1. Most fall on September 29, though. And all of them are largely sponsored and/or promoted by the various organizations which have a vested interest in promoting coffee.

Okay by me. Lots of coffee establishments are promoting their delicious brew variations through free samples. While I typically only stray as far as turning the after-dinner cup of java into an Irish on special occasions, I may just get up the courage to try the pumpkin-flavoured joe everyone is raving about. (I know. This flavour has been around for a while now. It just takes me some time to build up to “messing” with my coffee.)

Happy National Coffee Day!
