My Duchess of Dirt column coming out in the August 10, 2022 edition of the Comox Valley Record touches briefly on the Hemerocallis gall midge, also known as the daylily gall midge. I was not able to go into much detail about this pest in my column but said there is useful information on my website. Here is the link to that info on the insect pest page: Contarinia quinquenotata (hemerocallis gall midge).

I have also added some more up-to-date information about somewhat resistant varieties and cultivars to the gall midge.

Remember: Due diligence in removing all deformed buds is key to eradicating this pest destroyer of flowers. And please, spread the word to your neighbours, friends, and family members.
