Description

An evergreen grass with a densely clumping, moderate rhizomatous growth habit. Strap-like, dark green leaves up to ½ inch (1.3 cm) wide and 12 inches (30 cm) long are neatly decorated with creamy white margins. Small, cream-coloured, bottle-brush-like flowers appear on 16 inch (40 cm) tall stalks in April through May.

Native to Japan, this sedge is versatile in all but the worst soil conditions if given good drainage. Does best in cool conditions, putting on growth in early spring but tolerant of hot weather when limited to morning sun and provided with adequate water. Relatively good pest resistance but may be susceptible to diseases causing root rot. Good drainage is imperative. Deer and rabbit resistant.
