Description
A clump-forming grass with a dense, upright, rigid growth habit and compact shape. Leaf blades are horizontally banded yellow and green. Retains good colour throughout the season, turning a tan colour in mid-autumn. Loose clusters of flowers held in corymbs appear above the foliage in autumn. The tiny flowers emerge a coppery-red colour over white, maturing to beige.
‘Gold Bar’ is a variation from an open pollination crossing of Miscanthus sinensis ‘Strictus’. Takes about 5 years to reach mature height. Cut foliage back to 12-inches (30 cm) in late winter before new foliage appears. Drought tolerant once established; water occasionally during periods of high temperatures. Relatively pest and disease resistant in the Pacific Northwest. Deer resistant; rabbits may nibble new foliage in spring.
