It is resolution time with a New Year just around the corner. But to heck with promises of being on top of the housework and laundry! I always focus on the changes I want to make in my garden. It is a question of priorities. And greening the garden should be at the very top of the list.

As gardeners, we are truly on the front line of experiencing climate change. Just working in the soil, growing our food and tending to our plants exposes us to the vulgarities of our local weather patterns.

Countdown to Christmas!

I love Christmas! It is the only part of winter I do love. And the week before Christmas Eve is when I start to get really excited about Christmas.

I know I am lucky. My sister, brother and I had a mom who worked hard to make Christmas special for us. The house was always decorated in keeping with the season. Christmas cards were written and received. The aroma of Christmas baking filled the house almost every day for at least a week. The albums of Christmas music were played on the stereo every night during dinner.

Word of the Week

In autumn, the leaves on many deciduous trees change colour…then they die and typically fall off. But if you look around, you may see some dead leaves still hanging onto branches. These are called marcescent (mar-SES-ent) leaves.
