A walk around my garden on what would have been my dad’s 101st birthday (January 4), I was pleasantly surprised to see some buds on my newest hellebore, Frostkiss ‘Cheryl’s Shine’. I grabbed my camera to record this exciting January development in my garden, then wandered around to see what other surprises awaited me.

Did you know…

               …there may be some positive news buried in all the negative news about climate change?

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in the United States, “farmers in some regions may benefit from the earlier onset of spring and from a longer warm season that is suitable for growing crops.

The results of their studies are pointing towards better growth and production in crops and other plants due to the higher levels of carbon dioxide. The tested plant species also appeared to show some tolerance to drought conditions.

            …the earliest New Year’s festivals were held in Mesopotamia dating back as early as about 2000 BCE?

Evidence revealed the festival was held during the first new moon after the spring equinox in Babylonia…around the middle of March.
