Did you know…

                          …there was a prehistoric dragonfly whose wings measured more than two feet across?

The Meganeura monyi lived during the Late Carboniferous period, about 300 million years ago. They looked very much like the dragonflies and damselflies of today but were considerably larger in size.

Examinations of the few fossils of this creature which have been discovered shows their wingspan measured an impressive 2.5 feet (75 cm) and they weighed as much as a third of a pound or 5.3 oz (150 gr).
