Did you know…

…the very first Labour Day celebration in the world was held in Canada?

The first Canadian parade for workers’ rights was held in Toronto on April 15, 1872. The first Labour Day holiday did not happen in the United States until a little more than ten years later, on  September 5, 1882 in New York City.

In Europe, the International Federation of Socialists and Trade Unions waited another six and a half years…give or take a few weeks…until May 1, 1889 to create their International Workers’ Day holiday which was celebrated in more than 60 European countries. And still is today.
