Well, this week started out like a lion and it wasn’t even March yet. Fog, cloud, wind, rain, snow. We had it all…except sun…at the beginning of the week. Thankfully, the sun showed up the next day but so did the hail.

Seed catalogues and seedsWith all this looking-like-return-to-winter-weather happening there really was no point in doing any more garden cleanup. Best to leave the plants under their leaf blanket until this blip passed over. Good thing because on Friday night snow started falling.

Thank goodness there was not enough snow on the ground that I could not get out of the driveway and into Courtenay by 7:30 a.m., the start of my shift at our local Seedy Saturday. But I was a tad worried because the snow was not showing much sign of slowing any time soon. Would I be able to get back home?

Soon enough, I did not have much time to think about the snow problem. Between setting up the tables and organizing all the seed packets by category and in alphabetical order. There were a lot of seed packets…hundreds even. Just what is wanted at a Seedy Saturday…lots of seeds for sale.

And it was a good thing we had lots of seeds as lots of people came through looking to buy vegetable, flower and herb seeds from the Comox Valley Growers and Seed Savers.

I love Seedy Saturday for everything it stands for…planting seeds, growing a harvest, saving seeds…and for the energy and enthusiasm this event generates year after year. It is so encouraging to see how many people embrace the circle of life.

And now as we are at the end of this week and looking forward to the promises a new week may bring, the snow has started to fall once again. Big, big flakes this time. Not looking good.
