Description

An herbaceous perennial with a vase-like, slowly spreading habit. Large, oval leaves are a frosty blue-green marked with a creamy white, wavy-edged margin. Tall scapes to about 36 inches tall rise above the foliage to proudly display a raceme of white, funnel-shaped flowers tinged lightly with lavender.

Of unknown parentage, ‘Sagae’ was formerly known incorrectly as Hosta fluctuans ‘Variegated’. Classified as a large hosta, gradually reaching an impressive six feet (1.8 m) in length.

Grows best in partial shade and once established, will tolerate fairly dry conditions. Slug and snails can be a problem as the leaf tips appear out of the soil in spring; less of a problem once the leaves reach full height. Deer and rabbits can be a problem as well. Attracts bees and hummingbirds.
