“Freedom is never free.”
-Author Unknown
On this day I am thinking of my father, Hugh Ferguson…my uncle, Bob Ferguson…and my uncle, Jack Ferguson.
All three served in the Royal Canadian Air Force. My dad was stationed on the ground in England. My Uncle Bob was stationed in Toronto, training fighter pilots. My Uncle Jack was a Spitfire Mk IX pilot with No. 401 Squadron, stationed at Biggin Hill. He was shot down over the English Channel on August 17, 1942…two days prior to the Dieppe Raid…whilst taking part in Circus 204, escorting a number of B17 Fortress bombers.
I also honour many more of my relatives…ones who I am only now unraveling their heroic war contributions at Dieppe, Vimy Ridge, and other battles of WWI and WWII.
