This is a photo of the supermoon on August 10th taken from our back garden. Tried out the zoom lens on my new Canon Powershot SX50HS. Came out pretty decent, I think. Using the tripod helped.
Many probably know a “supermoon” is when the full moon phase happens at the point when the moon is closest to the Earth in its orbital path. When this happens, the moon is thirty percent brighter and fourteen percent larger. Hence, the “supermoon” designation.
This summer, there are three supermoons happening. The first was on July 12th. My photos of this one did not turn out very well. Had a good shot with some tree silhouettes in front of the moon but the moon was out of focus. (One reason why I took the time to set up my tripod for this month’s supermoon.)
The third supermoon will be on Tuesday, September 9th. Hoping for another clear night for some more photographs.
