Did not get out into the garden very much this last week. Very cold with overnight temperatures dipping down as low as -8 °C (46.4 °F) and when it did warm up to almost zero, the snow started. Another 10 – 15 cm (4-6 in) of snow this week. At least the snow is insulating the plants somewhat. But it sure is not conducive to getting some much-needed work done in the garden.

Surprisingly, we did notice some of the clematis vines were starting to show leaf buds developing. None of the Clematis montana cultivars or ‘Madame Julia Correvon’ yet but definitely some buds on my Clematis ‘Jackmanii Superba’ and Clematis viticella ‘Venosa Violacea’. And there are oodles of buds on John’s Clematis ‘Niobe’.

So encouraging in the midst of frost and snowy weather!
