Well…the garden is still covered in snow. And a lot is frozen again. Weather had started to warm up but clear skies overnight meant the temperature dipped to -7 °C (19.4 °F). I knew I should have brought the two hummingbird feeders inside last night. Luckily, the feeder on the front porch did not freeze as I only have one spare feeder…which I had to swap out for the frozen one down at the greenhouse.

It started snowing here on February 8th and has continued intermittently ever since. Watching the weather forecast this morning and I see the radar map indicates our part of Vancouver Island will get more snow overnight tonight. No indication on how much yet but it is looking like it could be quite a bit.

Needless to say…the Eranthis hyemalis (winter aconite) flowers which had just opened four days before the first snowfall are now buried. And they will likely be finished by the time the snow finally melts and we can see the soil again.

Let’s hope the thaw starts soon! The first day of spring is only 30 days away.
