Description

An herbaceous, spring ephemeral perennial with rounded, glossy black leaves that form a low rosette on the soil. Bright yellow, 1-inch (2.5 cm) wide, multi-petalled flowers appear atop 3-inch (7.5 cm) stalks in early March and lasting about a month.

Drought tolerant. Deer and rabbit resistant. Readily self-seeds, coming true to type to form an eye-catching groundcover. Be aware, given humus-rich soil conditions this species and cultivar could become invasive if the seedheads are not removed or the clump kept under control by regular division.

As a spring ephemeral, the plant goes dormant in May so you may want to mark your clump of ‘Brazen Hussy’ so you do not disturb it.
