Description

An herbaceous perennial with a slow-spreading, densely clumping habit. Long, narrow, deep green leaves mottled with silvery-white irregular spots are covered in soft hairs. Sparsely leaved flowering stems to 18 inches (45 cm) tall are topped by nodding, flat-topped branches of funnel-shaped, purple-blue flowers. Flowering period is April through May with flower buds appearing pink as they emerge before maturing to deep blue.

This plant is a wonderful groundcover for shade and woodland gardens. Easy care but is best grown in shade or where it will only receive morning sun. Water regularly if weather turns hot. Relatively pest and disease resistant although slugs and snails may be a problem to newly emerging leaves in spring. May suffer root rot if soil is poorly drained. Deer and rabbit resistant. Drought tolerant. Attracts bees and butterflies.
